Super Cheapie AND Adorable Dress!!

Check out this super cute and super easy bandana dress I made for Miss Viv!!

Alright, I'll admit this has nothing to do with coupons. BUT, it was super cheap to make and looks adorable!

Here's the scoop - I came across an awesome blog with all these great crafts called Trey and Lucy. She has a tutorial for a 15 minute Bandana Dress that will fit a 2-3 year old lil girl. (Check it out here.) I was automatically hooked and had to try it out. I drove myself on over to Wal-Mart and got 2 bandanas and super cute ribbon for $3.50 all together.

However, I do have to admit it took me waaaay longer than 15 minutes to make this. I haven't used my sewing machine in at least 3 years and I totally forgot how to manage even the simplest functions on it. I actually had to get online and look up how to wind bobbin thread. I know, right? So in actuality, this super chic dress took me about 2-1/2 hours to make instead of 15 minutes. But boy next time I make one it'll only take 15 minutes!

Let me know what you think of this totally cute dress! I'll post a pic of Viv in it as soon as she wakes up. I didn't have the heart to drag her out of bed just to try her new dress on her. haha

I have to say I was pretty disappointed with the CVS deals this week. I didn't even go there today and instead decided to enjoy the beautiful day with my family. I think the three of us were more than able to frustrate the other customers with our couponing - especially once we hit the registers. Ah well, I guess I didn't feel bad for too long considering the fantastic deals we got today!! :)

Gearing up for Sunday Savings

It's a beautiful Saturday evening and what am I doing?? Going over my Grocery Game list and adding up my Giant Eagle purchases for tomorrow. I'm hoping it will be a great week at Giant Eagle.. as long as they have their B1G1 boneless skinless chicken breasts in stock!
I'm really dorky but I'm so excited to hit the CVS deals tomorrow as well! I've been reading up on scenarios for tomorrow and I hope it will be as good as last week!

CVS Challenge

The Grocery Game

For everyone out there that's new to couponing, this may be the answer you've been looking for. My mom joined The Grocery Game about 4 weeks ago. The website address is simply www.thegrocerygame.com or just click here. They compile a list of all the deals that match your coupons for specifically your area stores. It does cost money, $1.25 per week, but trust me, it's well worth it!

My mom and I have been trying their lists for the past two weeks now, and on average, our savings at Giant Eagle have been tremendous. For example, I stopped by today and purchased 25 items for $24. Before I used my Giant Eagle card and all my coupons, my total would have been $43.

The best part of the system: Once you've been shopping the way they map it out for you for about 12 weeks, you should have a well stocked pantry with everything you need for at least 6 weeks.

Oh, if you don't want to spend the cash, CouponMom.com also offers basically the same list for free every week. However, it is not nearly as thorough as The Grocery Game, nor is it specific for your area.

Cheapie Tastefully Simple Recipes

I love Tastefully Simple. But sometimes (ok, a lot of times lately) I haven't had the extra cash to purchase their awesome products. So, being the frugal lady I am, I found some alternative recipes and thought I'd share them! I hope you enjoy them as much as I do... and guess, what? They taste just as great, are super easy to make, and are a fraction of the price!

Beer Bread
12oz beer (not light or corona)
3 C. self rising flour
1/3 C. sugar
3 Tbsp. butter, melted.

1. Preheat oven to 350. Spray a 9\" x 5\" loaf pan with baker\'s cooking spray.
2. Combine flour and sugar; stir in beer (you might have to use your hands to get it mixed thoroughly). Dough will be sticky.
3. Pour into prepared loaf pan; brush top with melted butter.
4. Bake for 50-60 minutes or until top is golden brown. Cool slightly; remove from pan and finish cooling.

Garlic Garlic
3 Tbsp. granulated garlic
3 Tbsp. garlic salt
3 Tbsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. salt

Mix together and add 16 oz sour cream, along with 1/4 C (4 Tbsp.) mayo.

Nana's Apple Cake
1/2 cup shortening
2 cups sugar
2 eggs
2 tsp vanilla
2 cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg or mace
1 tsp. ginger
6 cups peeled, diced tart apples

Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Combine dry ingredients and add to mixture. Stir in apples. Spoon into greased 11 x 13 pan. Bake at 350º for 45-50 minutes or until the toothpick comes out clean.
Optional: Add 1/2 cup chopped nuts to recipe at same time as apples.
Optional: Serve with warm caramel sauce and ice cream/whipped cream.

And this seems similar to Carmel Bliss Cheese ball.

Caramel Apple Dip
Categories: Dips
Yield: 1 Servings

8 oz Cream cheese -- softened
1/4 c Brown sugar
1 ts Vanilla
1/2 ts Caramel Extract


Mix well all ingredients until very smooth and creamy.
Chill and serve with sliced apples.

or

Apple Dip
Ready In: 5 Minutes. Makes 4
Ingredients:
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/2 cup brown sugar 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Directions:
1. Stir together the cream cheese, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until the sugar has dissolved, and the mixture is smooth.

Wal-Mart deals

My mom checked out Wal-Mart deals today. In total she spent $8. She scored 2 full cans of Folger's coffee (Custom Roast), 2 packages of Kotex Light Days, 1 package of Mentos gum and 1 bag of Sun Chips. And all she used was coupons from Sunday's paper. Wow!!
